不少人总是怀疑中草药的作用,尤其是其抗癌作用。有个网友说中草药对现有治癌
疗法仅有20%的续命作用,这个说法没错。然而,这20%续命作用是非常宝贵的,粗
制的中草药剂型能有如此表现,恰恰体现出中草药在治癌防癌方面的潜力和好于当
前治癌疗法的优点。

诚然,目前若干基因疗法免疫疗法正在如火如荼地研究中,时不时地显示出不错的
前景。可是医学界都知道癌症是一种极其复杂的疾病,很可能绝不是一种或几种疗
法就可以解决所有癌症这一大难题。由于对癌症的复杂性、易转移性、破坏性越来
越多的认识,科学家日益感觉到应该打造尽可能多种类型的抗癌杀器,不光是第一
波的杀器,也需要第二波第三波的助杀器,并备上有助于保护免疫功能的金钟罩,
等等,最好构建起立体攻防体系来处理和治疗癌症。 因此,从天然物(包括中草
药)开发治癌药物和辅助药物仍不失为一项很好的选择。当然,科学家还在研制各
种更为有效的剂型,如纳米,抗体螯合物等,准备为这些抗癌抑瘤化合物装上导向
仪,以提高杀器的命中率和降低其误杀率。

基于以上种种考虑,本人写了这本以“Cancer Inhibitors from Chinese
Natural Medicines”为题的参考书。目的是总结以往,面向未来, 希望能为促进
抗癌药物的提高与发展添上一把火。

在写作的漫长过程中,大量文献的阅读、整理、归纳。使我对中草药的抗癌抑瘤模
式有了较全面的认识。对此,总结性地写入这本书的序言里。今摘录其中几段在
此,附带译文。(由于作为网文会较长,截为三段贴出,今天贴第一段开场白)。
期望大家能增多对中草药抗癌抑瘤的有效性可开发性有所了解,同时让拙作发挥较
多的影响力。

The risk of cancer is increasing significantly nowadays, which is
a serious social and health problem threatening human being.
Hence, numerous scientists continuously endeavor on this
imperative issue for conquering the malignant disease and
declining the cancer incidence. Due to over 60% of currently used
anticancer agents are derived from natural sources directly or
indirectly, the discovery and development of new effective and
safe cancer inhibitors from folk medicines still is important
research subjects. In recent decades a large quantity of natural
products isolated from Chinese natural medicines have been found
to have remarkable bioactivities in the inhibition of cancer cell
proliferation, induction of apoptotic death, lessening of
metastasis, blockage of angiogenesis in the tumor tissues, and
enhancement of present chemo- and radio-therapies. All these
remarkable achievements not only afford indeed scientific reasons
for utilizing Chinese herbs to augment the conventional therapies
but also provide various important informatics for new drug design
and development and new therapy strategy to improve the quality of
cancer treatment and prevention.
当今,癌症已经是一个严重的社会和健康问题,它的风险正在逐年显著增加,威胁
着人类。因此,攻克这种恶性疾病和降低癌症的发病率一直是许多科学家不断致力
的迫切问题。由于目前使用的抗癌药物有60%以上是直接或间接来源于天然产物,因
此从民间药物中发现和开发新的有效和安全的癌抑制剂曾经是,现在依然是重要的
研究课题。近几十年来,从中草药中分离出大量的天然产物(化合物),它们在抑
制癌细胞增殖、诱导凋亡死亡、减少癌细胞转移、阻塞肿瘤组织内血管生成、以及
增强现有化疗和放射疗法等方面都有显著的生物活性。这些成果不仅为利用中药来
增强和改善现有疗法赋予科学的理由,而且为新药的设计和开发提供了各种重要的
信息,并可以为当前提高癌症治疗和预防的质量提供了新的治疗思路。

The overview of cancer inhibitors from Chinese natural medicines
could roughly be classified into five types: (1) inhibitors with
powerful cytotoxicity similar to those current chemotherapeutic
agents but displaying toxicity and side effect; (2) inhibitors
that exert marked anticancer effect but are lower than (1)-type
inhibitors and have minor toxicity or nontoxicity; (3) inhibitors
with moderate effect on cancer cells and also have
immunoregulative and/or antioxidant properties, (4) inhibitors
that are weakly effective against cancer cells but are capable of
stimulating the functional immune system and antioxidative system;
and (5) inhibitors that normally do not directly affect cancer
cells but remarkably enhance the cytotoxicity of that functional
immune factors from the host to attack the cancer cells. Based on
research results, the multiple types of the cancer inhibitors are
known often to involve in single herbs that play diverse roles in
cancer therapies. For the improvement of life-quality and life-
duration, different inhibitors-containing herbs, in many cases,
are effectively combined in the prescriptions of Chinese medicine
by Doctors in China to treat the cancer patients.
概述天然中草药中癌症抑制剂大致可分为五大类: (1) 具有强大细胞毒性的抑瘤
剂,其强度与目前的化疗药物相似,但也显示出同样的毒性和副作用; (2) 具有显
著抗癌作用的抑瘤剂,但其活性低于(1)型抑瘤剂,其毒性较小或副作用较小; (3)
对癌细胞有中度影响的抑瘤剂,同时它们也具有免疫和/或抗氧化活性;(4) 对癌细
胞有较弱作用的抑瘤剂,但它们能够激发功能性免疫系统和抗氧化系统; (5) 通常
不会直接影响癌细胞的抑瘤剂,但它们可显著地增强宿主细胞中功能性免疫因子的
细胞毒性,从而攻击癌细胞。根据众多研究结果,可知单一草药中所含的多种类型
的癌症抑制剂通常会在癌症治疗中扮演不同的角色。在许多情况下,如果将不同有
活性的草药在医生的中药处方中有效地结合,用来治疗癌症患者, 可以提高他们的
生活质量和延长寿命。
(这就是之所以国内有各类中草药处方用于癌症的辅助治疗,来增强当前常用癌症
治疗的效果,维护或恢复遭受破坏的免疫功能和造血机能,升白保髓,依此降低和
消除化疗和放疗所带来的严重副作用。一般来说,这种辅助性治疗可以缓解症状,
提高患者生活品质,续命 ~20%)

The book primarily is focused on the interface of
chemistry/biology and molecular biology and comprehensively
summarizes the recent cutting-edge research advances in the field
of cancer inhibitors (included extracts and compounds) from
Chinese natural medicines. To underline how Chinese natural
medicines research continues to make predominant contributions in
the domain of discovery and development of novel cancer
inhibitors, the book highlights the scientific evidences of 238
Chinese herbs in the eight major aspects: (i) advanced discoveries
of cancer inhibitors from Chinese natural medicines; (ii) in vitro
and in vivo inhibitory effects against different types of cancer
cells, such as their antiproliferative, antigrowth,
antimetastatic, antitumorigenic and antioxidant properties; (iii)
modern exploration of suppression mechanisms; (iv) synergistic
activities in the combination of current cancer therapies with the
inhibitors; (v) reversal advantage of the inhibitors against drug-
resistance; (vi) structural modification to derive more important
molecules for drug development; (vii) formulation researches on
nanocapsules/microparticals, immunotoxin/antibody-drug conjugate,
and metal complex; and (viii) clinical trials and practices of the
herb extracts and/or promising inhibitors (compounds) derived from
Chinese natural medicines.
本书着重于化学/生物学和分子生物学的界面,全面总结了近几十年来天然中草药
(包括提取物和化合物)抗癌抑瘤领域中的前沿研究进展。为了叙述天然中草药是如
何在发现和开发新型抗癌药物的研究领域中,连续地贡献出不错的表现,本书突出
了238种中草药在8个主要方面的科学证据: (i) 从天然中草药中发现癌症抑制剂
和活性成分 (包括小分子和大分子); (ii) 对不同类型的癌细胞的体外和体内
抑制作用(抑瘤谱),譬如抗增殖、抗生长、抗转移、抗致肿瘤和抗氧化活性作用;
(iii) 对其抑瘤作用机制进行现代化探索 (分子生物学层面); (iv) 其抑瘤剂
与当前癌症治疗法(化疗与放疗)相结合的协同作用; (v) 其逆转耐药性化疗药
物的优势; (vi) 结构修饰与改造,为药物开发提供更重要更有效的分子(抑瘤
剂); (vii) 新型制剂研究(纳米 与微米剂型,抗毒素与抗体共轭药物,和金属
络合药物); (viii) 有良好前景的中药精提物和抑瘤剂 (化合物)的临床试验和
实践。

Consequently, the book brings readers comprehensive and
illuminating insights into cancer inhibitors from Chinese natural
medicines. The 238 Chinese herbs have been categorized into 14
Chapters in the book according to their main functions in Chinese
medicine. For most of the selected herbs, the research data has
been collected up to October, 2015, from the latest challenges in
the anticancer approaches。
因此,通过这本书可以使读者对天然中草药的抗癌抑瘤剂及其活性有综合性的了
解。这238种中草药按其原先主要功能被分为14个章节。所选定的大多数中草药的抗
癌研究数据及成果收集到2015年10月。(实际上,到2015 年底,少数到2016年3
月)
