If OP is a permanent resident/US citizen, can score above 90th percentile on
the MCAT and has a BCPM GPA above 3.9, he has a very good shot. He
definitely needs to get some volunteering/physician shadowing experience to
show that he is truly motivated. Assuming he secures decent letters (this
shouldn't be too hard given his PhD background) and meets all the criteria
above, I'd say his chances of getting into a decent medical school is much
higher than 1%. It's true that medical school admission rates are very low,
but you also have to consider that the average applicant applies to over 20
Age usually isn't an issue as there are plenty of MS1's in their 30's. I
would go for it if I were OP.
